Welcome to the Drawer Organization Blog Hop! For the entire month of April, 12 bloggers will be sharing the process of cleaning and organizing one drawer in our homes each week. To kick off the first week, we’re focusing on drawers in our kitchen and dining rooms! My project for the kitchen is the ever chaotic storage containers. Jump below the image to see how I contain my containers!
My project for this Blog Hop is in the Kitchen but it’s not about drawers! I am blessed with 28 drawers in my kitchen so each drawer is designated to a specific type of item……bbq utensils, baking, peeling, measuring…..you get the idea!
What drove me crazy in the kitchen were my plastic storage containers flailing everywhere. Trying to get to a certain size storage container in the back of the pack and knocking everything else over or on the floor trying to get it out.
Does this Look Familiar?
What a mess! So frustrating!
My solution for my storage container conundrum was a container to contain my containers!
I used a 12 gallon Sterilite container.
The first thing to remember when choosing a storage container for your food storage containers is that “It’s hip to be square!” Get the squarest bottom container that will fit in the space you intend to use it in. Tapered bottoms are a waste of space both inside the container and outside. This goes for your plastic food storage containers as well.
Sort your food storage containers and get rid of or replace any that are round. The round does not store as neatly in either your container or your fridge. round bottoms waste valuable space. All my storage is as square as possible.
Measure the space of the opening that you intend to store your container in so that it will slide in and out easily. Find a container that fits the space. It was not hard with so many sizes available.
Once you have your container, organize your square plastic food containers by size inside the large container and that’s it! It slides in and out of my cabinet easily when I need one and has relieved all the aggravation and frustration of restacking them all everytime I need one. No more re-washing them because they spilled out all over the floor!
Storage Containers Contained!
