Reuse Bloggers Challenge -The Reveal !
Reuse- The Bloggers Repurpose Challenge Final Reveal! Give 15 Bloggers $15 each to buy and send found items to another Blogger who has to reuse them !
In the last post you’ll recall we showed what each blogger sent to their assigned counterpart to reuse / repurpose. If you missed that post and want to go back and read it as well as view the other bloggers first posts follow the link below.
You will recall that I received these items from Jenny @ Paintyourselfasmile Blog.
Jenny sent me a lamp, a bushel basket and 8 lovely brand new placemats. We were only required to repurpose one of the items. So which item did I use? Lets have a look at each one’s potential !
We’ll start with the placemats!
The Placemats were lovely! They are white with little silver threads going through them in a plaid pattern. I was really excited about these because they are like my Christmas decor. I was going to either 1) use them as a background in a frame that I had planned to use as an alternative Christmas stocking hanger for those without fireplaces. 2) remove the frilly edging and fuse them together end to end to create a table runner and place a silver accent on the seams or 3) make a really unique table topper in an unusual shape out of them.
But did I ??
stick around to find out! (no fair jumping ahead!)
Then there was the Bushel Basket !
Bushel basket ? I must admit I was fairly stumped by this one. Not because I could not think of anything to do with it exactly but more so that I had no idea how to display it properly, as it is no where close to my decor style. I could think of a couple of things to do with it outside but inside ?
This item definitely received the most attention from the other bloggers and commenters. I was surprised at how much everyone else loved it! All the bloggers offered their idea for it and I must say most were exactly the same which go’s to show the old adage is true “Great Minds think Alike” ! (I am truly in the company of some of the most talented ladies on the internet!)
I thought that it would make a great wall mounted kitty bed….can you imagine, attach the bottom to the wall and place a pillow inside for the kitty to lounge on? Alas I have no kitteh to test it on! I also thought it would make a great towel holder in the bath. Roll them up and stack them inside. Then there was the lampshade…..I had the lamp. The Basket was too large for the size lamp I received but I was thinking more of a hanging light shade. I could take the cord and bulb from the lamp and cover it with chain and hang it from the ceiling with the basket as the shade!
So What did I do with It ??
Hmmmm…..stay tuned !!
But wait! There’s one more item!
The lamp itself was cute just the way it was although pretty dated! It had a lovely little fabric shade, was an antique gold color and It had little pineapples on it! As you know pineapples are a symbol of affluence in some cultures. I am pretty sure this was a pricey little lamp at some point in time. The base was cast metal and not resin like so many molded bases are today.
I knew immediately what I wanted to do to reuse this little lamp. It involved taking it apart. In doing so I had to cut the wire for the light rendering in useless for the hanging Basket lampshade I had in mind for that awesomely popular bushel basket. Well…..I may be down but I’m not out!
Now for the moment all have been waiting for….
Drum Roll Please………
Bushel Basket Before…..
I had a $7 thrift store lamp in the garage that it was perfect for! I merely drilled a hole through the top and put a screw extender on the finial screw. You would never imagine the bottom of that basket was a full on inch thick!
and with light but without label……
then there is the Pineapple lamp before……
This project was not nearly as easy as I thought it would be! We had to totally take it apart, I painted all a metallic bronze, we had to cut the top finial screw down to get the pineapple finial low enough so that you did not have a lot of screw showing between the top pineapple finial and the two stacked just above the top plate! Did I mention drilling the plates? I won’t even go there……
We can’t leave out the placemats !……
Well……I did leave out the placemats! As I was picking up the scissor to clip off the sweet little edges, I could not do it! I loved them just the way they are! They are going to be perfect for me to use at Christmas…heck, anytime! My decor is accented in silver! I love silver! No way was I going to change these babies! They need laundered but they still had their manufacture labels on them! They have never been used! 2 out of three ain’t bad…..right?!
Was it as good as you expected???
