Everyone these days is intoxicated with the essence that is Magnolia Market, Joanna and Chip Gaines, and their Mega Hit HGTV show Fixer Upper. The uber cute and cuddly couple find ready for demolition vintage homes, give them cute names and transform them into gasp worthy and highly enviable show places. The Quaint and sweet couple with their Texas farm and adorable tots have grown from a cozy little boutique Shop to a Mega Market with the opening of their Magnolia Market Silos. The Silos sit on about 6 acres in the center of Waco, Texas and has its own fresh growing garden. On the heels of the hit show and the Magnolia Market Silos Follows the Launch of Joanna’s Eponymously Named Furniture Line.
So enough of that boringness …………..
ROAD TRIP !
This is sad to admit but……we have lived 32 miles from the famed farm silos for 2 years now and I am just getting around to a visit ! I know, i know, Make time for the Fun stuff ! I am the first to preach the glory of self indulgence !
We had been to Waco a couple times but the last time was 10 years ago before our move from Georgetown to Corpus Christi. Chip and Joanna were probably just married at that time and their Magnolia Empire was but a gleem in Joanna’s eye!
There’s More to Waco than just Silos !
Since we were going I wanted to visit another Big mane shop in Waco…..Junk in the Trunk! I have heard of Junk in the Trunk on Pinterest and probably a few other places I cannot remember but I really wanted to stop by because I had sold them a table a couple of weeks ago and wanted to see it in their showroom. We thought we would make a day of it and skip breakfast and catch lunch in Waco. Last time we were there we ate at a great place on Austin Ave. called “Half Time”. We set out a bit after 10:00 A.M and well, here’s the TOUR…………………….
Woo! Woo! First stop………..Junk in the trunk !!!!!!!!
This place is a furniture re-fabbers DREAM ! It is a massive warehouse filled with Beautiful delectibly delish pieces. Whatever era or color you are looking for, they have it! This is a must stop if you ever get to Waco !
Did I mention how PACKED with PEOPLE this place was? Not just this place but every stop?
We had just exited the freeway on to LaSalle Ave. and were looking for the address when on my right I spy………………..
STOP ! I screamed ! WHaaaaT ? Round To-it (hubby)-(chauffeur today !) screamed back ! (thinking he was going to run over some poor life form),
FLEA MARKET ! A BIG ONE !
Sheeeeesh! says R.T. !(okay, okay, that IS NOT the word he used!) Giving me a look I could not possibly describe without an “R” rating.
Needles to say, he DID NOT hit the brakes fast enough to make the turn into the drive! Sheeeeeeesh ! I said ! (okay, okay, that IS NOT the word I used ! ) You always miss !
No cat like reflexes on this guy!
anywhooooo, we continued ahead thinking we were going to come back after we hit Junk in the trunk. THAT DIDDn’t HAPPEN !!!!
You see………….I had no idea just how many shops like J.I.T.T. there are now in Waco! LaSalle Ave. Is lined with just such shops. Next door to J.I.T.T. is …………..
Much like J.I.T.T., Shades of Shabby is full of unique and one of A kind creations. I found their style to be A bit on the more feminine, romantic esthetic.
Chic but definitely not too shabby !
Did I tell ya’ll (yes, I say ya’ll. I am A Texan Now after all, ya’ll !) how impressed I was by the prices? I expected over the moon pricing but they were amazingly affordable! That is all but the table and chairs I would kill for! It was nearly 6 “SIX” !! big ones! (no not George’s, BEN’s ! ! Franklins !) I am not surprised just bummed. I have been looking for chairs like those, in any condition, myself for 2 years and they are hard to come by at any price. Not to mention the table ! The only problem is it is too small. I would be more tempted if the table were larger and had 6 chairs but alas, it is not to be…….YET ! I am looking for a dining set so stay tuned for that post!
Break Time !
After spending an hour in Junk in the Trunk and next door at Shades of Shabby we both needed to make pit stops (i know, i know, I could have gotten cute here but I was raised better !)
Unsure of where we were, we headed straight and took a left, consulting Siri for a “Diner” specifically cause we like “Diners, Drive In’s and Dives” and wanted to sample some really cool local burgers and brews! Siri gave us an option but it was back farther south than we were headed and R.T. was like race horse heading for the stall !(if you get my drift). (okay, okay, maybe my upbringing was somewhat lost on me!)
So we turn left and on our right was the Veterans Memorial Park, which is on the Brazos River. They have some really massive and beautiful Bronze sculptures By Tom White as well as a gorgeous pedestrian bridge.
If you get up/down to Waco, stop by this beautiful Memorial Park on the Brazos River !
EXTRA ! EXTRA !
You heard this here first ! On the local news, (we share a news station with Waco) this past Tuesday it was said that they are considering a San Antonio Style River Walk along the Brazos in Waco ! If you do not know what that is, your missing a special treat ! It is awesome but I will not spoil anything for you as I may decide to cover that in an upcoming post!
So, where were we? oh ! Yes! Lunch !(and other things) How could I forget over my grumbling tummy! Of course as we turn to head up/down Austin Ave, We are abruptly stopped by a police car, blocking the intersection for a Funeral procession. (God bless!)
So in Waco Police fashion I also make an abrupt stop at this point in my post ! I have much more to show and tell you but it is “ball time” (its like saying squirrel! round here) for the Sheppies and momma’s going to grab a glass of vino and put together an Italian style meat loaf ! (recipe to post this week !) as my stomach is growling just as it was then!
Stay tuned for part two of “Road Trip to Magnolia Market in Waco Texas”.
