My biggest challenge of the challenge…..
The Dining Table
The biggest challenge in this timeline is going to be the Dining Table. I knew that I wanted a round Table. They are so lovely and feminine and do not take up a whole room. I also wanted to seat a minimum of six people. I had decided on a Queen Ann Round Table with insert that would become an oval table to seat six when needed. Of course it also had to be a great price. It did not need to be perfect as I could re finish it. This is harder than you would think.

Let the Hunt Begin!
I was finding Queen Ann’s but most of them were not round. I found a couple on E-bay but they were all back east and the shipping cost was going to kill me, “as would my husband if I spent that much money on shipping a table across the country!” I knew there was a table out there somewhere perfectly priced for me, I always find my “gem”, so I kept looking.
Isn’t It Ironic…..
I was biding my time, waiting for my Divine perfect table to find me when one day as I was browsing my new Pier One catalogue, Flipping through the pages, I spot this really beautiful pedestal table. I did not think I wanted a pedestal table but the rich brown color and smooth graceful curves of this table caught my attention. The icing on the cake was that it was a true round table with a leaf that became an oval to seat six! Exactly what I was manifesting! Only go’s to show how you should be clear about what you want but be open to the universe to send you the Divine perfect one!
Just one problem
There was just one issue standing between me and my “Divine Perfect Table”. In order for it to actually be my Divine Perfect Table it would have to cost a whole lot less than the $600.00 plus dollars (tax, remember?). I do not pay full price for anything. If it’s not on sale, clearance or I have a coupon code, I bide my time till I do. This table could be that one big splurge but being in the furniture refinishing bizz, a hard one to swallow! Somehow I had to figure out how to get it for “less”. Much less ! As I am peering my Pier One, lusting after this table, Figuring in my head how much I could knock off the price with a 20% off coupon and how much I had coming in reward dollars, Something clicked! That table looks really familiar.……hmmm…….?
A Diamond in the Rough
I headed for the garage…furniture of all types, stacked on one another and tucked into every possible crevice. There she was! Upside down, The very Pedestal table I was crushing on from my Pier One Catalogue! Of course it did not look like the Pier One Table …….yet! It was a table that I had picked up at a yard sale with a matching hutch. A two tone pale country yellow with light brown stained accents. It was sooo different and yet it was nearly the exact table in every way that mattered! I had already sanded the top and was going to strip the finish from the pedestal and legs , repaint and re sell it! Then I became side tracked, months ago, with more important projects (commissioned pieces)
Keeping it was not going to put me out a dime other than the materials to refinish it! Remember I had bought it with a matching hutch? I sold the hutch, as is, for what I had paid for both pieces. Yipeeeeee! Score! I should know better than to judge a book (or in this case, a piece of furniture) by it’s cover, or finish, if you will! My Divine Perfect table has been here, waiting all these months, for me to notice it and all it took was breezing through a Pier One catalogue but I am giving all the cudos to the universe!
Below you will find some of the products that I will be using to refinish the table. I am an avid shopper of all products Amazon as well as an affiliate. I highly value these products and can honestly recommend them to you.
Here’s hoping I can manage to get my Dining Table refinished in time for the big reveal of the One Room Challenge! Wish me Luck ! Subscribe to follow my progress as well as the other Guest Challengers and Contestants of The One Room Challenge!
