The Dining Room
Welcome back or just Welcome! Glad to have all of you following along with “The One Room Challenge”! As a guest participant I am re designing my Dining Room. What a great way to force you to “git er done” as they say in Texas! LOL ! I am not a procrastinator at all but I can spend a great deal of time trying to make up my mind! It’s like when you know you really need to do a good house cleaning but you put it off because you are so busy… but just invite some friends over for supper and see how fast you “git er done” ! Having to complete this room in a 6 week time period is forcing me to make decisions I have been putting off for a long time. It will be the first room in this house to be completed so I am really jazzed about it!
Below is the Mock Up for my Dining Room. Some items will be exact and others will be as “like” as I can find given that I am in a small town and my main resources are online. I also will not/can not pay full price….It must be a super bargain. I will compromise on an item I “want” opting for an item that “works”, as long as I like it, even if the first item was”perfection”. I am the every woman’s Designer. You can have great design on a working woman’s/man’s budget if you know how. I am here to teach you how!
Let There Be Teal?
Color is my Joy! I love bold Jewel Tones! Color is a nightmare to try to match online given monitors distort the color. You know what I am saying if you have ever searched “Teal” or “Turquoise”. The search engines will give you every shade of blue and I can now guarantee that my monitor makes it look more blue when in reality it will have more green in it. It took me a long time and I went through every brands color charts and much tinting and shading to get to my custom color. Paint departments employees in the Texas Central Region dive under the counter when they see me approach now! (not sure that is something to brag about !)
This is my effort to shed light on the subject! (not funny?) You could not see the color in the lightless room so I had every available light in the house facing into the room so that you could see the color! Yes, your right! We did install light boxes last week, (you can see week two here), but I do not want to install them till I finish the ceiling for which I am awaiting product. Hope it gets here soon! Fingers crossed!
If you have seen my Corpus Christi Home Tour , Then you know that I veer toward the Modern esthetic. I also have a love of Romantic Hollywood Glam. I do believe that you should try to stay in keeping with the style of the home. That being said, My currant home is a 1959 Ranch. Just one problem with that. Someone decided the trim inside needed to be in the Craftsman Style. But only part of it! I have decided not to re do all the trim. I am also not going with Craftsman style furnishing(too masculine for me) but I am mixing some modern details into the furnishings and accessories , splashing in a bit of “Glam” (not an actual – official Designer term) as well as using Traditional pieces. Why so complicated?
My Ideal Dining Room
I can not tell you how much I love this table and chairs! Everything about this room is me! (not the Light fixture, I do not like bead light fixtures). The bright white trim color, the soft blue cabinets with the bowed detail ! I love the cabinets! The marble countertops! EEEEEEE!!!! This room gives me chills it is so perfect! (again, not the light fixture). I may go with a simialar blue in my kitchen when I get to that. We’ll see. stay tuned!
I also LOVE LOVE LOVE This Dining Room !
This dining room is very much what I am going for. From the wainscoting to the dark blue color. Every picture I found online with the right color never had the manufacturer or color name available. Paint suppliers could never get the color exactly right. It was always too light, too green or too black. I then found my Cynthia Rowley chairs and went for the teal color, which also was a riot to match but I got a color that I truly love. This is a very Traditional room which works for my house style and my husbands sensibility but when I add my Bold color, Contemporary seating and touch of “glam”, it will be perfect for both of us!
I’ll Get By With A Little Help From My Friends…………
knowing as much as you do about the room design, I would like your opinion on the light fixture. It’s not as much about the fixture as it is the finish of the fixture. Here are two chandeliers and I would like you to tell me which one you would place in my Dining Room if you were me! There is no wrong answer here, just a matter of opinion on finish! Remember metals mix!
So we are off to get to work on week three’s tasks (hoping my ceiling tiles get here soon), but if not the veneer over the Bead Board should keep us busy for the week! That and the moulding and painting too! I hope to see you back next week to check my progress and stop over to see all the contestants and guest participant’s of the Fall “One Room Challenge” by clicking the ORC button below and leave me a comment below so I know what you think of my Dining Room!
See ya soon!
