#1 Furniture Refinishing Product of 2016 !
Have you struggled with small spaces and awkward places when sanding your furniture products?
Struggle no more! I accidentally discovered a really fantastic refinishing product that makes those spaces and places that are hard to reach more, well…..reachable!
An unbiased and uncompensated review by a Furniture Refinishing Pro !
Introducing the greatest Furniture refinishing product that i have found in a very long time! 3M’s Flexible Sandblaster Sandpaper!
I was, as I often do, meandering through the paint section of one of my local (name withheld intentionally) stores. I love to just look at all the toys.(I’m like a kid in a candy store with paint and hardware Depts). Is there anything new that i may be able to find a project to use it for? So as I was meandering, I spotted this package called “Sandblaster“!
Sandblaster is a really neat flexible sandpaper. It has a soft rubbery feeling plastic backing with a micro crystalline like substance that is the “sandpaper” front. I liked the idea of it and obviously the price so I bought it without any specific project in mind.
To be honest, I tossed it in my basket, took it home and forgot about it!
Fast Foreward a few weeks.
Hubby and I have been working on a few furniture projects lately and I needed to sand in between some slats on a patio table as well as some chairs with thin round spindles. My first instinct was to grab my Dremmel and a couple of small sanding tips. Well….even the smallest tip did not fit between the slats on this patio table. Wondering if I should make a run to the local builders store to try to find a smaller tip . I checked the next day, by the way, and there is none smaller than my smallest tip!
Super Rough Table !
Then I remembered the Sandblaster Flexible Sandpaper that I had bought a few weeks back! I found it, and tore off a piece of the perforated sheet. It was super flexible and smooth on the back so it was comfortable to use, but the front was that crystalline looking texture so it was very durable. It fit very easily between the slats and I only had to slide it back and forth for a second to knock out all of the flaky wood and stain between the slats of wood.
Hard to reach, narrow spaces!
You can see the inside of the slat on the right…right? See how smooth and clean looking compared to the one on the left. It only took a few slides to get that gook off!
Don’t stop now!
I also used it on this table /chair set.
Those spindly chairs were looking like they were going to give me a lot of grief !
In reality it was very easy to get in between the spindles. I only needed to remove the sealer to paint these chairs, I did not need them sanded down to wood, so it only took about 10 minutes per chair. If you have refinished furniture, then you know that is a breeze!
It also does rounded places nicely!
You know how using stiff sandpaper can make it difficult to get around the round! It does not conform to these shapes well at all! It hurts your hands as well! Even the Dremmel is going to want to “travel” while you are trying to maneuver it on curves so keeping it on track is a job in itself! Sandblaster Flexible Sandpaper is like wrapping a cloth around it! It conforms nicely in all the little convex and concave curves and crevices! Without chaffing your skin!
So there it is! The Furniture refinishers #1 favorite product of 2016!
